CDG Homme Plus x Air Jordan 11: Fashion Week Meets the Hardwood

The Air Jordan 11 is the most guarded silhouette in the entire Jordan archive. Michael Jordan himself called it his favorite. A whole generation of kids lost their minds when they saw it in Space Jam. And for thirty years, Nike never let anyone touch it. No collaborations. No guest designers. Nothing.

That changes now. COMME des GARCONS Homme Plus has become the first brand ever to collaborate on the Air Jordan 11, and the result is exactly what you would expect from Rei Kawakubo. Minimal. Reverent. A little weird in the best way possible.

The shoe first appeared during the Homme Plus Fall/Winter 2026 show at Paris Fashion Week back in January. It dropped September 5, 2026 at Dover Street Market locations in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Tokyo, plus select CDG stores. If you missed it, resale is your only option at this point.

Two colorways released. Black and white. Both are built with premium full grain leather replacing the ballistic nylon that traditionally sits on the AJ11 upper. Patent leather still wraps the mudguard, which is the signature design element Tinker Hatfield introduced in 1995. That patent leather mudguard is what made the AJ11 revolutionary in the first place. It brought a level of formality to a basketball shoe that nobody had seen before.

The midsole gets a glossy finish that extends the patent leather effect across the entire shoe. Logos are embossed into the leather rather than printed on top. The tongue features “Homme Plus” in the original Air Jordan 11 typeface, which is a subtle but important detail. It tells you this is a collaboration without screaming it.

That is what makes this project work. Kawakubo did not try to reinvent the AJ11. She stripped it back. The campaign includes an image that is literally just a silhouette of the shoe, a blur of white and black with no detail visible. For a collaboration on the most important Air Jordan ever made, choosing to show almost nothing is an incredibly confident move.

The campaign was shot in front of the Comme des Garcons flagship store in Aoyama, Tokyo by photographer Goldie Williams Vericain. That store has its own history. Originally opened in 1980, it was redesigned and reopened in 1999 following an architectural project by Kawakubo and Takao Kawasaki. The images pair the shoes with structured tailoring from the Homme Plus FW 2026 collection, which is about as far from a basketball court as you can get.

And that contrast is the whole point. The AJ11 was the shoe that brought elegance to basketball. Patent leather on a performance sneaker was unthinkable before Hatfield did it. CDG Homme Plus takes that idea and pushes it further. The shoe becomes an object of fashion rather than sport, but it never loses its identity as an Air Jordan.

I think the white pair is the standout. There is something about an all-white leather AJ11 with a glossy midsole that looks like it belongs in a glass case. The black pair is cleaner and probably easier to wear, but the white version makes a statement that you cannot ignore.

Pricing was set at 354 British pounds at Dover Street Market, which converts to roughly $450 plus depending on exchange rates. That is serious money for an Air Jordan 11, even a collaborative one. But this is not a standard release. It is the first AJ11 collaboration in history, produced by one of the most respected fashion houses in the world.

If you are kicking yourself for missing the drop, I get it. This was one of those releases that felt like a cultural moment rather than just a shoe release. The fact that it happened at all, after three decades of Nike protecting the AJ11 from any outside input, is remarkable.

Keep an eye on Dover Street Market’s online store for restocks. And if resale is your only path, be prepared to pay. The CDG Homme Plus x AJ11 is already trading well above retail on the secondary market.
