Every once in a while a Nike drop surfaces that makes you do a double take. The Air Max 90 “Glow In The Dark Safari” is one of those. I saw the first images hit my feed last week and honestly thought someone had leaked an atmos collab. The safari print. The volt accents. That glowing sole. It has all the ingredients of a Tokyo banger. But it is not an atmos collaboration. It is all Nike, and that somehow makes it better.

Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max 90 back in 1990. He also designed the original Air Safari in 1987, which is where the safari print first appeared. So when you see this shoe, you are really looking at two of Tinker’s greatest hits mashed together on one silhouette. The Air Max 90 has always been a canvas for bold material choices. This one takes it to another level.
The upper uses safari-printed leather across the quarter panels and the mudguard. If you have never felt safari print in person, it has this cracked, almost ostrich-skin texture that catches light differently depending on the angle. It is not just a printed graphic. The leather itself is textured, which gives the shoe a tactile quality that photos do not fully capture. The same safari treatment extends to the tongue tag, which gets paired with Barely Volt stitching for a sharp little detail.

Barely Volt is the accent color here and it does a lot of heavy lifting. It lands on the Swoosh, the Nike Air heel branding, and the outsole. If you are thinking that sounds like a lot of volt for one shoe, it is. But the rest of the upper stays muted enough that it never feels loud. Phantom takes care of the eyestays, the mudguard window, and the midsole. That off-white creamy tone balances everything out. The mesh toe box is clean white. So you get this neutral base with pops of pale green that are surprisingly wearable.
Then there is the glow-in-the-dark part. The Barely Volt outsole has a phosphorescent treatment, meaning it absorbs light during the day and glows green in the dark. When you see the glow shots, the entire outsole lights up along with the Swoosh. It is genuinely cool. Not gimmicky cool. Actually cool. Nike could have gone the obvious Halloween route with pumpkin orange and ghost graphics, but they kept it subtle. During the day this is a clean safari print Air Max 90. At night it becomes something else entirely.

The timing is no accident. This is a Fall/Winter 2026 release and the Halloween adjacency is obvious. Nike has been pushing seasonal Air Max drops harder lately, and this one feels like it was built specifically for October. The safari print gives it texture. The glow sole gives it drama. Together they create a shoe that works as a daily wearer and a conversation piece.

SKU is IX5026-030. Price is $145 for men’s sizing. No firm release date has been announced yet. Nike has it listed for Fall/Winter 2026 through Nikestore, but the exact calendar date is still TBA. Given how good the official images look, I would expect this one to move fast when it does drop. Safari print Air Max 90s have a dedicated following and the glow element adds a wrinkle that collectors are going to want in hand before they decide how they feel about it.
What gets me about this shoe is how much it leans into Nike’s own heritage without feeling retro. The safari print is nearly 40 years old. The Air Max 90 silhouette is over 35 years old. But slap them together with a glow-in-the-dark sole and it reads as fresh. That is the thing about Tinker Hatfield designs. The bones are so strong that you can keep finding new ways to dress them up without losing the identity of the shoe.

The atmos comparison is going to follow this pair around. atmos has used safari print on Air Max projects multiple times over the years, and they have also done glow-in-the-dark treatments. The combination on a single shoe naturally evokes that catalog. But Nike doing it on their own hits different. It is not a limited collab with a hyped retailer. It is a general release that more people will actually be able to buy. If you missed the atmos safari Air Max 90s over the years, this is your chance to get something in that same lane without paying resale.

I will be watching for the release date on this one. The $145 price point is fair for what you are getting. Safari print leather, glow-in-the-dark sole, and a clean Phantom and Barely Volt colorway on a Tinker Hatfield classic. That is a hard combination to argue with.
