Nike’s One Piece collaboration is ending with the Air Max Plus “Gomu Go
The Air Max Plus is the right silhouette for this kind of project. It already has that aggressive, futuristic look with the Tuned Air pillars and the wavy upper overlays. Adding anime graphics to it does not feel forced. The shoe already looks like something out of a manga panel.
The purple dominates the upper with darker accents creating depth. The Gomu Gomu name comes from Luffy’s signature stretchy rubber power in One Piece. The design weaves in references without making the shoe look like a licensed product. You can wear these without anyone knowing it is an anime collab unless they look closely.
That subtlety is what separates good anime collabs from bad ones. The bad ones slap a giant character graphic on the shoe and call it a day. The good ones build the inspiration into the color palette and material choices. Nike got this right with the One Piece series, and the Gomu Gomu is the strongest execution.
The tongue has the Straw Hat Pirates jolly roger. The outsole has One Piece branding. These are the details that matter to fans. They are small enough that they do not define the shoe but prominent enough that people who know will spot them.
