Kevin Durant has been one of the most consistent signature shoe lines in basketball, and the Nike KD 17 continues that trend into Fall 2026 with a colorway that caught me off guard in the best way possible.
The KD 17 originally debuted in May 2024 with the “Sunrise” colorway, inspired by the 1998 Air Max Plus and NBA Jam. That first pair had a University Gold, Black, and Safety Orange scheme that was loud and fun. The second colorway, “Penny,” went with White, Black, and Game Royal, inspired by the Orlando Magic and Penny Hardaway’s signature shoes. Both were strong openers. Since then, the KD 17 has seen a bunch of releases including the N7, Aunt Pearl, Christmas, Dusty Amethyst, Slim Reaper, and the Jonquel Jones “Bahamas” collab. The line has been deep, and now the Fall 2026 colorway adds another layer.
What makes this new Fall 2026 colorway work is the way it balances tones. The shoe comes dressed in a deep navy blue base with metallic silver accents and volt green hits on the Swoosh and outsole. That volt pop against the navy is what initially grabbed my attention. It’s a color combination that feels both sharp and a little unexpected for a KD shoe. Durant’s line has always played with bold colors, but this one feels more refined than some of the louder releases we’ve seen.
The KD 17 retails at $150, which has been the standard price since launch. At that price point, you’re getting a lot of shoe. The upper uses a combination of engineered mesh and TPU overlays, giving you a lightweight feel with enough structure to handle lateral movement. The midsole features Nike’s Cushlon foam, which provides a soft, cushioned ride that works well for wings and forwards who move a lot on the perimeter. It’s not the bounciest setup in Nike’s basketball lineup, but it’s comfortable and reliable for long sessions on court.
I think the KD 17 is one of the more underrated signature shoes in Nike’s current basketball lineup. It doesn’t get the same hype as the LeBron line or the Kobe reissues, but it quietly delivers on performance. The TPU overlays on the upper create a wavy, organic look that references the Air Max Plus DNA Durant has loved since his early Nike days. The Fall 2026 colorway leans into that design language with the navy and silver combination looking almost like a modernized version of a classic running shoe aesthetic.
Durant’s connection to his signature line has always felt genuine. He wears his own shoes on court consistently, and the design choices reflect his personal taste. The 90s inspirations from the Sunrise and Penny colorways carried through the line, and even the Fall 2026 pair has that retro-future vibe. The metallic silver on the overlays catches light in a way that makes the shoe look premium without being flashy about it.
The outsole on the KD 17 uses a multidirectional traction pattern that performs well on clean indoor floors. Outdoor players might find the rubber wears down a bit faster than some heavier outsole compounds, but that’s the tradeoff for the lighter overall weight. The shoe weighs in at around 14 ounces in a men’s size 10, which puts it in the middle of the pack for basketball shoes in this price range.
Sizing has been pretty consistent with the KD 17. Most people are going true to size, and the wide-foot crowd has reported that the mesh upper gives enough to be comfortable without feeling sloppy. If you’ve worn the KD 16, the 17 feels similar but with a slightly more refined upper construction.
The Fall 2026 colorway is releasing during a window where Nike Basketball typically pushes hard with new drops. Between the start of the NBA season and the holiday shopping rush, this KD 17 has a good chance of being one of the more popular basketball shoes of the season. The navy and volt combination is versatile enough to wear on court and clean enough to rock casually with jeans. That dual-purpose appeal is something the KD line has always done well.
What I keep coming back to with the KD 17 is the value. At $150, you’re getting signature shoe tech and design without paying the $180-plus that some other signature lines command. The Fall 2026 colorway reinforces that value proposition. It looks like a shoe that costs more than it does, and the performance is legitimate. If you’re a wing player or a guard who likes a soft, cushioned ride with enough support for aggressive cuts, the KD 17 remains one of the best options on the market.
