The adidas Superstar has survived every trend cycle since 1969. Shell toe, three stripes, rubber cupsole. It is one of the few shoes that genuinely does not need a redesign to stay relevant. So when adidas decides to dress it up with gemstone embellishments and call it the “Jewel” edition, that gets my attention. Not because the idea is revolutionary, but because the Superstar is the one silhouette that can absorb that kind of decoration without losing its identity.

White hits the Three Stripes and the heel tab for contrast. Then the jewels take over the rest of the real estate, spread across the sides in multiple colors, each one set inside its own silver border with decorative trim running along the edges.
The bedazzled sneaker trend has been building throughout 2026. We have seen rhinestone treatments, pearlized finishes, and jeweled accents popping up across multiple brands. It is a clear callback to 2000s style, which makes sense because fashion runs on 20-year cycles and the Y2K aesthetic is fully back in rotation. The difference now is that the execution feels more deliberate. These are not just random rhinestones glued on. The gemstones on the Superstar Jewel look intentional, almost like jewelry design applied to footwear.
I will say the black canvas base is a smart choice. A white leather Superstar covered in multicolored gems would look like a craft project. The black canvas grounds it. It gives the jewels something to pop against instead of competing with a bright upper. Pricing has not been officially confirmed yet, but I would expect it to land near the Superstar’s usual 00 retail mark. Maybe slightly above given the embellishments. The Superstar line has been active all year. We have seen the Anthony Edwards “Metallic Gold” version, various classic colorways, and now this Jewel edition. What I appreciate about adidas is that they are not afraid to experiment with a silhouette that has been around for nearly 60 years. The shell toe is still there. The cupsole is still there. The DNA is intact. They are just having fun with the upper, and the Jewel is a good example of how far you can push a classic before it stops being a classic.
Whether this trend has staying power is an open question. Bedazzled sneakers could be a one-season novelty or the beginning of something bigger. Either way, the Superstar Jewel is one of the more interesting takes on the trend because it uses a silhouette that actually has the history to support a flashy treatment. This is not a random runner getting rhinestones slapped on it. It is the Superstar. It earned the right to be a little extra.
