Kevin Durant’s twelfth signature shoe with Nike went bold with the “Wavvy” colorway, and honestly, this might be the most fun KD 12 release of the entire run. The shoe dropped in November 2019 and brought a wave of color that stood out even in a year packed with wild basketball sneakers.
The colorway is officially Teal Tint/Blue Gaze-Red Orbit, style code CW2774-300. That barely describes what is actually happening on this shoe. The upper uses a layered mesh that creates a watercolor, tie-dye effect with soft blends of blue, pink, orange, and green underneath a crosshatch overlay. It looks like a beach vacation captured in sneaker form. The Swoosh comes through in a translucent pinkish-orange finish, and the collar lining pops in bright lime green.
Nike described the inspiration as 90s fashion, and you can see it in the wavy prints and patterns that move across the upper. This was not a subtle shoe. It picked up where the summer EYBL “Peach Jam” and “Nationals” colorways left off, pushing the colorful aesthetic even further. The speckled detailing on the white midsole adds another layer of throwback energy, with red, yellow, and blue flecks scattered across the foam.
The KD 12 itself was a serious performance basketball shoe. It featured a full-length Zoom Air unit stitched directly to the upper, which was a first for Nike Basketball at the time. That meant the cushioning sat right under your foot without any foam in between, giving you a responsive, bouncy ride. The multi-directional Flywire cables underneath the mesh provided lockdown support without adding bulk. So while the “Wavvy” colorway looks like a lifestyle flex, it was built for actual on-court performance.
One of my favorite details is the insoles. The left reads “Wavvy” with KD’s signature, while the right says “Wayne Durant / Edition / 2019-2020.” That is a nod to KD’s middle name, Wayne, after his grandmother. Small personal touches like that elevate a colorway from just a paint job to something with character.
The shoe retailed for $150 and was available at select retailers and Nike.com. The translucent outsole has a milky finish that lets you see the Zoom Air cushioning underneath, with “ZOOM” text visible through the foam. Even the heel KD logo comes in light blue, matching the teal-heavy color scheme.
The KD 12 “Wavvy” is the kind of shoe that sneakerheads either love or skip, and the ones who love it really love it. The color blocking is wild, the energy is unmistakable, and it represents a moment when Nike was willing to let basketball shoes be fun again. Durant was with the Brooklyn Nets by the time this dropped, though he was sitting out the 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles injury. The shoe still hit hard regardless.
