Game of Thrones was the biggest show on television in 2019. The final season was about to air and the hype was absolutely off the charts. So when adidas announced they were dropping a six-shoe Ultra Boost collection themed around the houses and factions of Westeros, sneakerheads and GoT fans collectively lost their minds. This was a crossover that made too much sense not to happen.

The collection dropped on March 22, 2019, exclusively on adidas.com. Six colorways. $180 each. Each pair represented a different house or faction from the show. House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, Targaryen Dragons, Night’s Watch, and White Walkers. Every single one had custom insoles with house sigils and a phrase on the heel tab. The attention to detail was serious.

House Lannister was probably the flashiest of the bunch. Scarlet red Primeknit upper with gold metallic Three Stripes. “Hear Me Roar” on the heel tab. The Lannister lion sigil on the insole. SKU EE3710. The red and gold combo was striking in person. Photos didn’t really capture how metallic those gold stripes were. It was a women’s exclusive, which surprised a lot of people given how hyped the collaboration was.

The Night’s Watch pair was the dark horse of the collection. Black Primeknit upper with a white toe cap and “Night’s Watch” branding. SKU EE3707. The speckled black and white knit pattern was supposed to represent the fur cloaks the Night’s Watch wears in the show. “I Am the Sword in the Darkness” on the heel. That’s a long phrase for a heel tab but adidas made it work. These were probably the most wearable pair in the collection. All black goes with everything.

House Stark was the most anticipated colorway. Grey and black with off-white accents. “Winter Is Coming” on the heel. The direwolf sigil on the insole. SKU EE3706. The Stark pair had this muted, cold color palette that perfectly captured the vibe of Winterfell. It was clean, understated, and honestly the most versatile of the bunch for everyday wear.

The White Walkers pair was the wild card. Cloud White with glow blue accents. “Winter Is Here” on the heel. SKU EE3708. The glow-in-the-dark details on the outsole were a nice touch. These looked like something the Night King would actually wear. The Targaryen Dragons pair was all black with scarlet red accents, representing Daenerys’s dragons. And the House Targaryen pair was off-white with silver metallic, a women’s exclusive that was probably the most elegant looking shoe in the collection.

What made this collection work was that adidas didn’t just slap GoT logos on existing shoes. They actually thought about the colorways and how they connected to the houses. The Lannister red and gold. The Stark grey and black. The Targaryen silver and black. Each pair told a story about the house it represented. The Ultra Boost 4.0 silhouette was a smart choice too. It’s comfortable, it’s premium, and the Primeknit upper allowed for detailed knit patterns that added visual depth.
The collection sold out fast. Really fast. adidas.com struggled with the traffic. Resale prices spiked immediately, especially for the Night’s Watch and House Stark pairs. Looking back, this is one of those collaborations that actually lived up to the hype. It was a cultural moment. The biggest show on TV paired with one of the most popular running shoes in the world. You don’t see collaborations like this come together very often. When they do, they become instant grails.
