Every couple of years Nike decides we’re emotionally ready for Shox again, and this time they went and recrafted the R4 properly. Triple black, patent leather accents, the four spring columns in the heel, all of it faithful to the 2001 original. When I say faithful I mean it. The design lines, the laser perforations, the whole Y2K robot-look of the thing. They didn’t smooth it out for 2026 sensibilities, which is the correct call.
The black-on-black patent is the detail doing the heavy lifting here. In pictures it reads matte, but in person those glossy panels catch light and the shoe suddenly makes sense. It’s a night shoe. This is the sneaker you wear with wide-leg denim and too much confidence, and that’s not a criticism, that’s the entire point.

$155 retail, which honestly feels fair for what this is. The Shox cushioning in the heel distributes weight the way it always did, squishy and a little theatrical, but genuinely comfortable for walking around. It released November 4th as a general release, so it’s sitting on Nike.com right now.
The one thing I’ll say as a warning: Shox are a look, not a flex. People will comment. Some will love it, some will ask if you lost a bet. You have to be at peace with that before you check out.

Me? I think the 2000s revival has officially reached the point where this is just a good shoe again. The columns are back. Get with it or get out of the way.
