The Kobe 3 Low Protro “Mamba Eterno” dropped October 30 and it is one of the loudest Kobe retros Nike has ever shipped. Safety Orange and Picante Red dominate, marigold graphics bloom underneath the translucent TPU cage, and the whole thing is a Día de Muertos tribute. Mamba Eterno means Eternal Mamba. The name alone hits different on a Kobe shoe.

The theme is not random. Kobe’s connection to Los Angeles runs through the city’s Mexican community, Vanessa Bryant is of Mexican descent, and the Día de Muertos tradition of honoring family who have passed makes this the most personal Kobe release in years. Marigolds are the flower of the holiday, symbolizing the connection between generations. Nike built that into the upper instead of just splashing orange on a shoe and calling it festive. Style code IO6260-800, 190 dollars at retail.

Most Kobe 3 Low Protro colorways have kept the upper restrained. This one flips that completely. The floral artwork under the cage becomes the main event, with green and purple accents on the tongue, laces and an asymmetric heel Swoosh pulling it all together. On court it is a full performance build, so this is not a shelf piece unless you want it to be.

Resale cooled off fast after the SNKRS release, which surprised me given how loud the design is. Pairs are moving around or even under retail on the marketplaces right after release weekend. That makes this one of the few Kobe drops in recent memory where waiting did not punish you. If the Día de Muertos theme means anything to you, this is an easy pickup.
