Style code JA1091-100. The colorway uses red, white, and black, inspired by the Cincinnati Reds team colors. Griffey spent most of his career with the Seattle Mariners, but he also played for the Reds from 2000 to 2008. This colorway honors that chapter of his career.
The Air Griffey Max 1 is one of the best baseball signature shoes ever made. Originally released in 1996, it featured a full-length Air Max unit, a carbon fiber shank plate, and that iconic strap across the midfoot. The shoe was built for baseball but adopted by sneakerheads who never set foot on a diamond.
The 2026 version brings back the original colorway from 2011, which itself was a retro of a Griffey PE. The red upper with white accents and black detailing is clean. The Nike Swingman logo on the heel and tongue ties it all together.
What makes the Griffey Max 1 special is that it does not look like anything else in Nike’s lineup. The strap, the chunky midsole, the aggressive lines. It is a 90s baseball shoe that still looks good in 2026. That is the definition of timeless design.
