The Kobe 3 Protro is going back to the original high-top shape and I am glad Nike made that call. The low-tops have been getting all the attention lately. Nothing wrong with those, but the Kobe 3 was designed as a high-top in 2007 and that is how it looked when Kobe wore it. The Protro keeps the performance updates but restores the original cut. Good decision.
The “Orca” colorway is one of the cleaner Kobe releases in recent memory. Black takes most of the upper. Leather around the toe gives it a premium feel. Mesh and TPU form the web-like panels through the sides and ankle, which is the signature look of the Kobe 3. White breaks up the dark upper at the heel. Gold Kobe sheath logos land on the tongue and back.
Nothing is overdone here. The killer whale nickname comes from the black and white contrast, and the gold adds just enough heat without turning it into a flashy shoe. This is the kind of colorway that works on the court and off it. You could wear these with joggers and not look like you were heading to a game.
For the Protro updates, Nike has kept the modern performance cushioning and traction that the Protro line is known for. The original shape and visual design stay intact. If you played in the 2007 version, the Protro will feel familiar but better. If you never touched the original, you are getting a shoe that looks like a classic but performs like something built in 2026.

$210 for a Protro is not cheap, but Kobe shoes have never been about value. They are about getting a piece of the legacy. The Orca is one of the better colorways to come through the Protro program. If you collect Kobes or just want one pair in the rotation that stands out without being loud, this is the one.
