Thirty years. Space Jam hit theaters three decades ago, and the Air Jordan 9 is coming back in the colorway MJ wore during his brief on-screen appearance. The Air Jordan 9 OG “Space Jam” connects the shoe’s cinematic history with a generation of collectors who grew up watching the Tune Squad take on the Monstars.
Style code IX6179-100. White leather upper, black nubuck mudguard and collar wrap. True Red on the tongue Jumpman, the heel “23” badge, and the globe logo on the outsole. Same triple-color formula that made the original 1993 release work. Jordan Brand also adjusted the shape to better match the ’93 original. Sleeker toe box. More accurate proportions compared to previous retros.
The AJ9’s place in Space Jam lore is niche. MJ wore the shoe during a short scene in the film. Not on the basketball court. During the training sequence. Blink and you miss it. But it cemented the 9’s place in the movie’s sneaker history alongside the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” that everyone remembers.
Special Space Jam-themed box on this release. Previous AJ9 retros landed in 2002, 2008 as part of the Countdown Pack, 2010, and 2016. Each had quirks. This 30th anniversary version is the first to explicitly tie back to the film with dedicated packaging.
Pricing still TBA, but expect around $215 based on current Jordan Brand retro pricing. September 19, 2026 drop. Space Jam retros do not sit for long.
