Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten” collection was supposed to be done. Nike said so. Abloh said so. Everyone thought the Off-White x Nike era had wrapped up. But then Virgil went and confirmed three new Dunk Low colorways were dropping in late 2019, and the sneaker world lost its collective mind all over again. The Off-White x Nike Dunk Low Leather Collection hit retailers on December 20th, 2019, with a retail price of $170 per pair.

The collection came in three colorways, each one leaning into a classic Nike Dunk college color scheme. First up is the White and Pine Green pair, style code CT0856-100. This one channels the St. John’s University vibes with a clean white leather base and pine green overlays on the toe cap, Swoosh, and heel. It’s probably the most versatile of the three if you’re thinking about everyday wear.

Then you’ve got the University Red and Wolf Grey pair, style code CT0856-600. This one references the UNLV Dunks from the Be True To Your School pack. University red covers the overlays while wolf grey handles the toe box and quarter panels. I think this is the most striking of the three. The red hits harder than the green or the gold, and the wolf grey base tones it down just enough to keep it from being too loud.

The third colorway is University Gold and Midnight Navy, style code CT0856-700. This is the Michigan color scheme, and it’s probably the most divisive of the bunch. Some people love the maize and navy combo on a Dunk. Others think the gold is too much. Personally, I think it’s the most fun pair. The yellow leather base with navy overlays pops in a way that the other two don’t.

All three pairs share the same Off-White design language. You get the deconstructed aesthetic with exposed foam on the tongue, the signature red zip-tie hanging from the laces, and the secondary rope lacing system threaded through the forefoot. The orange rectangular tag on the heel and the Helvetica text on the medial side are classic Abloh touches. The uppers are constructed from leather rather than the mesh and canvas you’d find on a standard Dunk Low, which gives these a more premium feel.

The release itself was chaos, as you’d expect from anything Off-White x Nike. These dropped through Nike SNKRS and select retailers, and they sold out instantly. The initial retail of $170 felt almost laughable given the resale prices that followed. On StockX, pairs were moving for several hundred dollars within the first week, and prices only climbed from there as supply dried up.

What makes this collection special is that it proved the Off-White x Nike partnership still had legs after “The Ten” supposedly ended. Abloh took the Dunk Low, a shoe that wasn’t getting much attention at the time, and turned it into one of the most hyped releases of 2019. The Dunk was already starting its comeback, but these Off-White colorways gave it a serious push. If you want a pair now, StockX has all three colorways listed with active markets.
